Start with representative pages
Look at the first page, a dense text page, a page with gradients and a page with embedded images. Compare glyph shapes, clipping and line breaks against a trusted XPS viewer.
Read engine warnings
A warning is evidence that a resource or operation needed attention. The tool does not hide warnings behind a successful download. If content is missing, export a fresh XPS or PDF from the originating application.
Text extraction is a second check
Use the text sidecar to check whether expected words were present in the source engine output. A matching page count alone does not prove visual or textual identity.
Compare content, not just the success message
Create a short inspection list before converting a document you intend to distribute. Include a heading, a paragraph with punctuation, an unusual symbol, an image and a clipped or shaded graphic. After conversion, find the same items in the PDF at normal viewing size and at a larger zoom. Check whether any element is missing or displaced.
For a source with five pages, the reopened-PDF check should report five output pages when no range is entered. That confirms a structural property only. Five blank pages would still have the expected count, which is why visual inspection and the extracted-text sidecar remain important for documents with embedded fonts, damaged resources or unusual page effects.
If a warning mentions a resource, inspect pages that use that resource before sharing the result. Save the warning text with the source file and conversion settings. Try exporting a fresh XPS from the original application if the result differs. Running the same damaged package repeatedly rarely creates a font or image that was absent to begin with.
Treat signatures and navigation separately from page appearance. A visible signature image may look unchanged while the original package's cryptographic signature is no longer applicable. This page conversion does not retain valid digital signatures, source annotations or document navigation. Keep the signed original when authenticity or the original interactive structure matters to your workflow.
